WOW – 21 JANUARY 2026: HOW TO BE A SUCCESSFUL FISHERMAN
Senior Pastor Daniel O. C. | Jan 21, 2026
Calvary greetings to you in the blessed name of Jesus Christ our Saviour, Amen!
HOW TO BE A SUCCESSFUL FISHERMAN
To be a Christian is to obey Christ no matter how you feel.
A Christian should aspire to do the will of god, nothing more, nothing less, nothing else.
The Christian who claims the promises of God should obey the commands of God.
Mark 16:15
Others said, “It is Elijah.” And others said, “It is the Prophet, or like one of the prophets.”
The Lord Jesus did not only teach personal evangelism.
He also laid the example down for every believer to follow (Lk 19:10).
We are called to evangelize and win souls for Christ.
Therefore, soul winning should be the serious business of every believer.
The main objective of soul winning is leading a sinner to repent and turn to God through Jesus Christ (John 1:40-42).
To be successful in soul winning, we must lead the unbeliever to a meaningful, sincere and hearty decision to forsake all sins and receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
Let us now consider some successful soul winners in the Bible whose experiences, character and methods can be of great benefit to us. We can extract practical lessons in order to succeed in our bid too.
THE SCRIPTURAL EXAMPLES OF SUCCESSFUL FISHERMEN
a) Jesus
b) Philip
c) Paul the apostle
A) JESUS: THE GREAT AND SUCCESSFUL SOUL WINNER
(John 3:1-7 / 4:7-29)
- Jesus came to save souls and He specialized in the art of soul winning.
- Jesus never lost any opportunity. He did not neglect anybody.
- Jesus talked to individuals; He preached in villages and cities.
- Jesus preached in synagogues and mountain sides.
- Jesus was everywhere helping everybody in positive ways.
From these two portions of the Scripture namely John 3:1-7 / 4:7-29, we can learn some lessons of Jesus’ involvement in soul winning. We must be natural when speaking to unbelievers. Jesus always spoke in a natural tone.
- Do not wait for an impulse, impression, a feeling or even an opportunity before you talk to people about Jesus (2 Tim 4:2).
- If there is no opportunity, create one by the help of the Holy Ghost (John 4:7 / Acts 8:30).
- Do not exalt self above the unbeliever or advertise yourself (John 4:7-29).
- Do not condemn denominations or unbelievers and do not criticize the government (John 4:19-24 / 3:16-21), but we must warn people about cults (Matt 16:6, 12).
- Do not allow the unbeliever to lead you from one subject to another for the sake of argument but rather lead and control the discussion (John 4:19-21, 25-26). Avoid unnecessary questions and do not raise any (Titus 3:9).
- Do not act victoriously or proudly in your conversation when you see success. It will humiliate the unbeliever and make you lose that soul. Learn humility from Jesus our Saviour. (John 4:15-19 / Matt 11:29).
- Do not give up too soon and do not be in a hurry. Speak with faith, authority and love. Pray before you go out to witness.
- Do not act too familiar with the opposite sex nor minister to them but keep your distance (1 Thessalonians 5:22).
Get the unbeliever to a decision for Christ Jesus.
To be continued.
Remain blessed and rapturable,
Yours to reach this generation with the Gospel,
