“ADONAI DISCIPLINES THOSE HE LOVES”
Saints of God Most High, hear God’s word for you today:
“Also you have forgotten the counsel which speaks with you as sons: ‘My son, don’t despise the discipline of Adonai or become despondent when he corrects you. For Adonai disciplines those he loves and whips everyone he accepts as a son.’” (Hebrews 12:5-6)
Have you forgotten His encouraging words spoken to you as His children? He said, My child, don’t underestimate the value of the discipline and training of the Lord God, or get depressed when he has to correct you.
For the Lord’s training of your life is the evidence of His faithful love. And when He draws you to Himself, it proves you are His delightful child.
THE DISCIPLINE OF GOD
David, a man after God’s own heart who sought to please God all his life, says in Psalm 141:5 “Let the righteous man smite and correct me–it is a kindness. Oil so choice let not my head refuse or discourage…..”
David knew what it was to sin and be corrected. When he sinned with Bathsheba, Nathan the prophet of God came to him, “Why have you despised the commandment of the Lord, doing evil in His sight?” (2 Samuel 12:9).
David recognized that he had sinned against the Lord (2 Samuel 12:13). He took the correction as it was from the Lord and not from the prophet as a person. He considered it a kindness when a righteous man corrected him.
Most of us pretend to be humble before the person who corrects us, but what is our attitude the minute they are out of sight? “Who does he think he is? Who appointed him over us? Is he God? Is he so perfect that he should find fault with us? Is he so perfect that he should point a finger at us?” If these thoughts are in your mind, it is time for a real change in your heart. Those who correct us have love, concern and regard for us to be at our best.
If we can see beyond the person and see that the correction comes from the Lord, we would not harbour such a negative attitude towards the person. The real test to see if your attitude is right, is whether you can sincerely pray for those people during their trials and calamities.
Beloved, take correction and discipline from a righteous man. Do not let discouragement or bitterness be in your heart, for if your eyes are open, you would know that you can only get to be a better person and a more useful vessel in the service of the Lord.
“IF YOU REJECT CORRECTION, YOU ARE UNWISE!”
Shalom and good morning.
