“THE CONSERVATION OF CONVERTS IN CHRIST!”
Saints of God Most High, hear God’s word for you today:
“After some time, Sha’ul said to Bar-Nabba, ‘Let’s go back and visit the brothers in all the towns where we proclaimed the message about the Lord, and see how they’re doing’” (Acts 15:36).
After some days, Paul said to Barnabas, Let’s travel to the regions where we’ve preached the word of God and see how the believers are getting along.
THE CONSERVATION OF CONVERTS IN CHRIST
The Great Commission does not end with genuine conversion of sinners to Christ.
It continues with the means of establishing them in the faith, this is known as “follow-up”.
New believers are fragile and are characterised by pure love for God and the desire to know more of Him. Being babes in the Lord, they need close fellowship and teaching on how to grow in grace so that they will not fall prey of fiery darts of false teachers and agents of Satan.
There is the need to nurture and mature them so that they will not be swept off their feet by every wind of false doctrine.
We need to adopt the principle of teaching towards the new converts.
Let us explain the word “TEACHER” as applied to handling the new converts.
T = Teaching (Matthew 28:19-20)
We are to teach new converts systematically the basic principles of Christian faith. He must understand salvation and its assurance / redemption / atonement / restitution / water baptism / victory over sin / soul winning, etc. We must equally baptise them in water.
E = Exemplary life (1 Thessalonians 2:7-12)
Young converts learn and are established mostly by the examples they see. Bad examples will discourage them, while godly examples will establish them in the faith. Jesus showed us example that we should follow in His footsteps.
A = Assistance(Acts 18:26)
New converts are eager to know more of Christ. We must assist them so as not to read evil and misleading articles. We must assist them on how to handle persecution from peers and parents. We must teach them how to observe daily quiet time.
C = Constant visitation (Acts 15:36)
New converts live dependent lives. Hence, we need to be very close to them for love / encouragement / comfort / guidance and prayers. We must zealously and jealously protect them.
H = Helpful counsel (Colossians 2:6-8)
The new convert needs helpful counselling on how to grow spiritually and be established in the faith. There is the need to encourage them to desist from philosophies and traditions of men and be separate from worldly lifestyle.
E = Endurance (1 Corinthians 13:7)
This is a necessary virtue for a follow-up worker so his labour would not be in vain.
He must be able to bear with some of the habits and personality traits of the converts. With patience and prayer, such habits and traits will give way.
We must not condemn or judge the weak converts but rather, help and pray them out of their weaknesses.
R = Reliance upon the Lord (1 Corinthians 3:6)
Human efforts may fail, but God never fails. The soul winner must always put his trust in God, constantly going on his or her knees to seek God’s assistance. Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it (Galatians 4:19 / Psalms 127:1).
Result oriented follow up can be done when we attach one or two converts to a worker for follow-up. Establishing converts and discipleship class is indispensable.
“BE PART OF BUILDING GOD’S KINGDOM IN JESUS’ NAME, AMEN!”
Everybody shout, “AMEN HALLELUJAH!”
Shalom and good morning.
