CHRISTIANS AND FASTING (CONT’D)

DIFFERENT KINDS OF FASTING

There are different kinds of fasting namely:

  • Normal fasting
  • Partial fasting
  • Absolute fasting

Normal Fasting

This is totally refraining from food, either solid or liquid but water.
This kind of fasting can last as long as we are led by the Holy Spirit. (3, 7, 14, 21, 28, 40 days) etc.

Partial Fast
This involves abstaining from certain food (Daniel 10:2-3).
Some people call this kind of fasting “white fasting”.
It also varies at its duration depending on the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Absolute Fast
This is a total fast of no food and no water.
This kind of fast must not exceed 3 days unless one is sure the Lord has commanded, as was the case of Moses and Elijah the prophet.

Please do not practice absolute fast unless you heard it from God yourself.
Even if you claim to have heard God, make sure you re-confirm it and more so godly wisdom must be applied.

Beloved saints of the living God, even when we are in between two burdens (Genesis 49:14), we must not loiter, for we belong to Christ.

  • When the wind of false accusation is blowing, stand strong and see the salvation of the Lord your God.
  • When the cause of God provides you the opportunity to bless your brethren, give your goods and yourself away to bless others because you are Christ’s ambassadors.

Our character must reflect Christ Jesus. Do not at any time contradict your profession of faith.

Our behavior must be Christ-like.
Our speech like Jesus, the Nazarene.
Our conversation characterized with heavenly view.
Our conduct reflecting the countenance of holiness.

Let us not hide our zeal for Christ and His kingdom expansion.

  • We are not a village at the valley but a city that is set on a hill (Matt 5:14).
  • We are not a candle under a bushel but a candle in a candlestick, giving light to all.
  • We can hide ourselves behind the cross but we must not hide Christ from people.

  • We can keep the truth in our lives but we must not keep the truth from others.
  • We may not preach from the pulpit but we can testify in the private how good the Lord is.
  • We may not be able to shout the praises of Jesus in the large congregation but we can share in small groups as house churches and other gatherings.

From the hidden springs within, let the sweet water of testimony flow forth, giving drinks of encouragement and strength to all.
Let our prayer have fewer tail feathers of pride but more wings to soar upwards to the throne of God.

Remain blessed and rapturable,
Yours to reach this generation with the Gospel,

Dr. Daniel O. C.
