HOW TO HANDLE A HOPELESS SITUATION

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN JONAH AND THE SAILORS

  • Jonah was a Hebrew. He knew the Almighty God and had a rich history of the Almighty God’s faithfulness.
But the sailors were Gentiles with no history of the Almighty God.

  • Jonah was monotheistic, believing in the one true God (Jonah 1:9).
But the sailors were polytheistic, worshipping many false gods.

  • Jonah was rightly related to the true God.
The sailors had no relationship with the true God.

  • Jonah was spiritual insensitive, going in the wrong direction from God (Jonah 1:5).
But the sailors were sensitive, moving in the right direction. They prayed to their god (Jonah 1:5).

  • Jonah was indifferent towards God’s will in spite of knowing Him.
But the sailors were concerned of God even though they do not know Him.

  • Jonah was uncompassionated towards the people of Nineveh (Jonah 1:3).
But the sailors were compassionate towards Jonah (Jonah 1:11-14).

  • Jonah was rebellious and therefore disciplined but not destroyed (Jonah 1:17).
But the sailors were brought to worship and commitment (Jonah 1:16).

JONAH 1:7-10

  • If we disobey God, trouble can come not only upon us but also on our family.
  • If a spouse backslides and departs from God, such an act can spell a doom on their household.
  • If a pastor ignores the leading of the Holy Spirit, his act of disobedience can bring calamity upon his congregation.
  • If a business partner goes contrary to the Word of God, such an act can lead to the utter ruin or collapse of a joint venture.

Since our action or inaction may get others into trouble, we need to be careful of what we do. In Jonah’s case, he was the architect of the sailor’s horrifying experience. Alarmed, the sailors initially tried to steer the ship to safety, but when they could not, they demanded a solution from Jonah (Jonah 1:12-15). Jonah however offered the solution. And truly, as soon as this instruction was carried out, calmness returned to the stormy sea. There is a great lesson to learn from the incident of Jonah.

Beloved,

  • If you want a quick solution to your problem, get rid of the cause.
  • If you do not want to suffer lung cancer, then get rid of smoking.
  • If you do not want to contract HIV Aids, then stop fornication.
  • If you want to be free from loan shark problems, then get rid of impulsive buying and improper financial management
  • If you do not want to be harassed, humiliated and afflicted by demons, then get rid of occultic engagement and prayerlessness.
  • If you are being attacked and afflicted by demons and spiritual forces, then do something about the covenant you had made with these demons while you were an unbeliever.
  • Break all affiliations with the demonic world and renounce the hidden things of dishonesty.

Beloved arise, watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave and be strong (1 Corinthians 16:13).
For your mountain shall become a plain ground, your giants become ants, your Red Sea will be dried up, your ocean of affliction will be driven away and your wall of Jericho will crumble down before the presence of our Almighty God, in Jesus’ name and all God’s people say, “Amen!”

Remain blessed and rapturable,

Yours to reach this generation with the Gospel,

Dr. Daniel O. C.
