THE ESSENTIALS OF INTERCESSION
(Hebrews 11:6 / 12:14 / 1 Thessalonians 5:22 / Luke 18:1 / Ephesians 6:10-18)
Intercession is strengthened by continuity.
Intercession is characterised by perseverance, importunity, persistence, faith, burden, compassion and zeal for God’s work.
For intercessors to be effective and successful, his or her life must be challenging. Is your life challenging and humbling? (Isaiah 45:2-3)
QUALITIES OF AN EFFECTIVE INTERCESSOR
A genuine and definite salvation experience, sanctification and Holy Spirit’s baptism. (John 1:12 / 1 Timothy 2:1-14 / Ezekiel 36:25-27 / Acts 1:8)
Clear conscience and also being careful not to grieve the Holy Spirit Who intercedes on our behalf. (Acts 24:16 / Ephesians 4:30)
Burden for souls (Romans 9:1-3 / 10:1)
Vision for the perishing (John 4:35 / 1 Corinthians 9:16 / Ezekiel 3:22-23)
Thorough knowledge of God’s Word (2 Timothy 3:15 / 2:15 / 1 Thessalonians 4:11 / Malachi 2:6-7)
Boldness before the throne of God (Hebrews 10:19)
A life of discipline, diligence and self-denial (1 Corinthians 7:29-31)
Planned and regular prayer time (Psalms 5:3 / 55:17)
Unwavering, mountain-moving faith in God’s unchanging Word (James 1:6 / Mark 11:23-24 / Luke 1:45)
An intercessor must be a believer who runs away from unhealthy criticisms, uncontrollable temperament such as clamour and unnecessary loud in speaking.
An intercessor must be free from evil speaking, fault-finding, tale bearing and character assassination.
An intercessor must not be impatient, indolent, negligent or selfish.
He must not have selfish ambition that exalts evil or esteem worldly things more than heavenly things.
An intercessor walks in holiness of life and speech.
An intercessor is humble and consistent in his or her commitment with God.
An intercessor is completely surrendered to the will of God the Father.
