CHARACTERISTICS AND CONDUCT OF THE GOSPEL MESSENGERS
(Isaiah 52:9 / 1 John 3:9 / 1 Peter 1:15-16 / Colossians 3:16)
The spiritually famished must be fed for survival.
Jesus Christ the Chief Shepherd, during His earthly ministry, went about doing good (Acts 10:38).
Jesus sought the lost and saved them (Luke 19:10).
Thus, leaving us an example to follow in His footsteps (1 Peter 2:21).
Jesus Christ’s concern was to do the will of God (John 4:34)
A Gospel Messenger’s Characteristics
A Gospel Messenger must manifest:
- Total freedom from sin (1 John 3:9)
- Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)
- Purity of life (1 Peter 1:15-16)
- Daily meditation on the Word of God (Joshua 1:8 / Psalms 1:2)
- Heart filled with God’s Word (Psalms 119:11 / Colossians 3:16)
- Prayerfulness and watchfulness with all diligence (1 Thessalonians 5:17 / Matthew 26:41)
- Be salt of the earth and light of the world (Matthew 5:13-14)
- Wisdom to understand, defend and earnestly contend for the faith (1 Peter 3:15-16 / Jude 1:3)
- Christ-like compassion for the perishing (Matthew 9:36 / Mark 6:34)
- Self-denial and daily cross bearing (Luke 9:23)
- A good knowledge of the Word (2 Timothy 2:15)
- Walking in the spirit and following in Christ Jesus’ steps (Galatians 5:16 / 1 Peter 2:21)
COMMISSION AND STRATEGIES FOR GOSPEL MESSENGERS
(Lamentations 2:18-19 / Matthew 28:18-20 / Mark 16:15-20)
At the close of the ministry, Christ Jesus commanded His disciples to occupy (Luke 19:13).
What are the strategies we need to adopt in order to reach the famished?
- We must locate where the famished are.
- We must introduce Christ Jesus the Bread of Life to them. (John 1:29)
- We must lead them to conviction, repentance and conversion, praying with them through to salvation. (Acts 2:37-38 / 18:28)
- We must preach the gospel of peace. (Ephesians 6:15)
- We must teach them how to pray and be totally dependent on God. (1 Peter 5:7)
- We must visit them constantly for fellowship and follow up on them. (Acts 15:36)
- We must introduce them to the church weekly fellowship and activities. (Hebrews 10:25 / Acts 2:46-47)
Methods By Which We Can Share The Bread Of Life With The Famished
- Person to person (John 4:40-42)
- House to house (Luke 9:1-5 / 10:1-7)
- Literature evangelism, tracts, magazines (Psalms 68:11 / Habakkuk 2:2)
- Internet ministry
- Use of testimonies (John 1:44-45 / Acts 26:2-23)
- Carriage evangelism (Acts 8:22-38)
May we be obedient to Spiritually feed the hungry and the famished in Jesus’ name!
