Calvary greetings to you in the blessed name of Jesus Christ our Saviour, Amen!

MORE THAN A CARPENTER

Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God and the Saviour of the whole world is more than a carpenter.

The Saviour is born but is He really born in your heart? “Then the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.’ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (Luke 2:10-14)

The Jewish people saw Jesus as only a carpenter and the Son of Mary. “Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us? So, they were offended at Him” (Mark 6:3).
The Jewish crowd of Nazareth at this time were offended at the Messiah and asked the above contemptuous question. Their question was not provoked by an exhibition of a wrong attitude on the part of Jesus Christ. In fact, the Lord Jesus Christ was in the synagogue, preaching and teaching on a Sabbath. The congregation marvelled at the display of divine wisdom He manifested and the great and mighty miracles He performed. All that this wonderful manifestation of God’s omnipotence could elicit in the life of the Nazarenes was the despicable comment “Is not this the carpenter?” To the appreciating Gentiles however, Jesus Christ was more than just a common place carpenter.

The portrait of Isaiah 9:6 reveals His names as Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father and the Prince of Peace. Surely one who has such epithets as described above performs roles greater than that of ordinary carpentry.
Jesus Christ is the Anointed One for “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him” (Acts 10:38).

Jesus is the One unto whom God gave the Spirit without measure. It is He who died and by His blood we have the remission of sins. “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).

The skilful carpenters who are professionals in the trade are known for their ability to fabricate wood into lively designs. Apart from being a carpenter, Jesus Christ is the Creator. “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, dominions, principalities, or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him” (Colossians 1:16).

Jesus is the Lord. “For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living” (Romans 14:9).

The impact of Jesus Christ on human history is significant. According to H.G. Wells, a historian, Jesus stands first when it comes to judging a person’s greatness by historical standard.
Jesus Christ is the only way to enter into a relationship with God.
He is the One who grants us forgiveness for sins and He is the only way to salvation for mankind.
Have you found salvation through Jesus Christ the only way to heaven?
Has your relationship grown since the day you knew Him and gave your heart and life to Him?

The world will recognise the difference in you because they will see that you spend time with Jesus.

Remain blessed and rapturable,

Yours to reach this generation with the Gospel,

Dr. Daniel O. C.
