“CEASE FROM GOSSIP, FOR IT GRIEVES THE HOLY SPIRIT!”
Saints of God Most High, hear God’s word for you today:
“A gossip goes around revealing secrets, but a trustworthy person keeps a confidence.” (Proverbs 11:13)
You can’t trust gossipers with a secret; they’ll just go blab it all. Put your confidence instead in a trusted friend, for he will be faithful to keep it in confidence.
The consistently righteous man is a guide to his neighbour, but the way of the wicked causes others to go astray.
ACTIONS OF GOSSIPERS
- A gossiper talks about other people’s business and things that does not concern him / her in anyway.
- A gossiper repeats other people’s word even though he / she is not sure of the truth or false of the rumour.
- A gossiper relates words to others as if he / she has the authority over the situation when actually he / she does not have.
- Beloved, gossip is a deadly poison.
- It hurts the victim. It destroys relationships. It separates good friends and damages the bridge of trust.
- Gossip usually condemns the innocent and inflates falsehood.
- Gossip may start between two or more people who become friends to share with each other but end up talking about others maliciously.
- (Proverbs 18:8) Gossip is usually based on hearsay. It is inaccurate news or report.
- It inflates lies and suppresses truth.
- It increases suspicious.
- It creates room for discomfort amongst people.
- It is evil in nature, practice and appearance (Proverbs 11:13 / 17:9 / 20:19 / 26:20 / Leviticus 19:16).
- Gossip takes place in secret.
- What you say to someone about another in the secret, will you dare to say it in front of that person or publicly? If your answer is ‘NO’ then you should not say it at all.
- Do not allow the devil to drag you into the fellowship of the gossipers (James 3:8).
(Ephesians 4:29-32) The above portion of the scripture explicitly explains what gossip is all about.
- Gossip grieves the Holy Spirit. It brings bitterness, wrath, anger and clamour.
- We must put away evil speaking with malice.
- We must be kind to one another.
- A gossiper shares tidbits without facts.
- A gossiper likes to have a clan of devoted listeners.
- Gossipers flourish in gossiping business because there are constant customers who faithfully consume his goods of gossip.
May the Lord God protect us from the actions of gossipers in Jesus’ mighty name, Amen!
Shalom and good morning.
