Dearly Beloved,
(Luke 19:1-10) “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house” Jesus told Zacchaeus (Luke 19:5). Zacchaeus immediately confessed and declared “Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold” (Luke 19: 8). The short encounter with Jesus brought a great life change in Zacchaeus. He was never going the evil, corrupt, cheating path again.
(Mark 10: 46-52) Blind Bartimaeus sat by the roadside begging all his life. He heard about Jesus was on that road and he cried out, “Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me!” He was warned by many to be quiet but he cried out all the more: “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Jesus who hears the cry of the desperate, helpless and the forsaken, heard him and called for him. Vs 50 says, “Throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus.” He did not need that garment that signified his past life of begging, blindness, and being a slave to the roadside anymore. Jesus gave him sight and he followed Jesus on the road. One encounter with Jesus took this blind man to the world, to freedom, to vision and to follow Jesus.
Saul lived persecuting Christians but the road to Damascus encounter changed him. He was no longer Saul the killer, persecutor, but Paul who was “…crucified with Christ.” He declared: “…it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me…” (Gal 2:20).
When Jesus comes into our lives, there will be a life change. Before we knew the Lord Jesus, we were in the kingdom of darkness serving Satan, living in sin, enslaved to evil, unrighteous, unclean, bound by his chains, captive forever to him. We need to always thank the Lord for salvation, for being set free, for belonging to His kingdom and family, for forgiveness of sins, cleansing and for daily grace to walk with Him. We need to completely break free from our past life and show it just like Zacchaeus, Bartimaeus and Saul did.
When Jesus lives in us, do we give Him the reins of our life? Do we declare to Him: “Lord, live in me, abide in me. Make a life change in me. Get involved in all of my life. I am nothing without you, I can do nothing without you. I need You every moment of my life.” Can we think as the Lord thinks, feel as He feels, will as He wills, choose as He chooses, view as He views, make His choices ours, His decision ours, His purpose for us ours? Can we depend, rely entirely on Him for all matters in our lives and say that without Him there is totally no life in us? Are we truly dead, and buried with Him and risen up into His life for us? Beloved let us search our hearts and lives as we truly ponder on this and run back to Him from where we are fallen.
In the blessed love of Jesus,
Sis Elizabeth Daniel
