UNDERSTANDING A CHRISTIAN’S EDIFICATION!

Saints of God Most High, hear God’s word for you today:

Furthermore, he gave some people as emissaries, some as prophets, some as proclaimers of the Good News, and some as shepherds and teachers. Their task is to equip God’s people………” (Ephesians 4;11-12)

He, Adonai Yeshua has appointed some with grace to be apostles and some with grace to be prophets and some with grace to be evangelists and some with grace to be pastors and some with grace to be teachers.

Their calling is to nurture and prepare all the holy believers to do their own works of ministry and as they do this, they will enlarge and build up the body of Christ.

A CHRISTIAN’S EDIFICATION
Edification means enlightening of ignorance.
It is building up of moral or spiritual strength.
It is also improving spiritual or moral standard by instruction or example.

The Greek word for edification is “oikodomed” meaning to be a house builder, to construct, build, build-up.

There are two areas the church of Jesus Christ can be built-up to growth. Namely:
In quantity – That is growing in numbers and
In quality – growing in stature. The goal of this is to produce perfection in people.

FACTORS THAT AFFECT EDIFICATION
One may ask what are the factors that affect edification?

  • Truth
The main basis for edification is truth (John 17:17). Truth is the foundation for all growth. Hence the Scriptures is of utmost importance.

  • Love
The motivating factor for edification is love. Love is the reason we seek growth.
Apostle Paul wrote to the Church of Corinth about love which is an essential factor for growth.

The Corinthian Church had the potential for growth (1 Corinthians 12) but lack of love hindered it (1 Corinthians 13). Where there is no love growth will be hindered both in quantity and in quality. Even in any family where there is no love, growth will be affected.

We need to grow in love (Philippians 1:9).
Every other thing is meaningless without love (1 Corinthians 13:1-3). This love we talk about is God’s love and its qualities are seen in (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

  • Direction
The direction of edification is growing up in the Lord (Ephesians 4:13) The fullness of Christ is our goal as such it is not the religious activities that count but our growth in the Lord Jesus Christ.

We need to grow in the true of the knowledge of Christ (Philippians 1:9) in order to make right decisions. We need to grow in Christ Jesus in order to discern rightly in all situations. We need to grow in order to discern rightly in all circumstances.

  • Scope
The scope of edification is in all things. We are to grow in all areas. We are also to grow at all times (Eph 4:15) Growing in all areas and at all times is necessary to enable us to choose what is best. (Philipp 1:10) More so it enables us to be free from offense.

The Necessity For Edification (Ephesians 4:16)
Growth is dependent on mutual ministry. Every believer has a contribution to make.
Every believer has also a contribution to receive. Therefore, growth is dependent on every believer’s involvement.

The contribution from man depends on the Divine qualities which the Holy Spirit gives.
For man cannot provide anything that God may consider good.

BE EDIFIED TODAY, IN JESUS’ MIGHTY NAME, AMEN!

Shalom and good morning.
