DIFFERENCES BETWEEN JONAH AND THE SAILORS

Saints of God Most High, hear God’s word for you today:

The word of Adonai came to Yonah the son of Amitai: ‘Set out for the great city of Ninveh, and proclaim to it that their wickedness has come to my attention…….’” (Jonah 1:1-3).

Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai, saying, Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim against it, for their wickedness has come up before Me.

But Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from being in the presence of the Lord as His prophet and went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish the most remote of the Phoenician trading places then known. So he paid the appointed fare and went down into the ship to go with them to Tarshish from being in the presence of the Lord as His servant and minister.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN JONAH AND THE SAILORS
Jonah was a Hebrew; he knows and has a rich history of the Almighty God’s faithfulness.
But the sailors were Gentiles with no history of the Almighty God.

Jonah was monotheistic, believing in the One true God. (Jonah 1:9)
But the sailors were polytheistic, worshipping many false gods.

Jonah was rightly related to the true God.
The sailors had no relationship with the true God.

Jonah was spiritual insensitive, going in the wrong direction from God.     (Jonah 1:5)
But the sailors were sensitive moving in the right direction. They prayed to their god. (Jonah 1:5)

Jonah was indifferent towards God’s will in spite of knowing Him.
But the sailors were concerned of God even though they did not know Him.

Jonah was uncompassionated towards the people of Nineveh. (Jonah 1:3)
But the sailors were compassionate towards Jonah. (Jonah 1:11-14)

Jonah was rebellious and therefore disciplined but not destroyed. (Jonah 1:17)
But the sailors were brought to worship and commitment. (Jonah 1:16)

So don’t hide your light! Let it shine brightly before others, so that your commendable works will shine as light upon them, and then they will give their praise to your Father in heaven.

Shalom and good morning.
