Dear brethren,

When we have accepted Jesus as our Saviour, Lord and the Master of our lives with our whole heart, we need to willingly serve Him in the best way we can. “And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul” (Deuteronomy 10:12).

We need to serve the Lord with fear and reverence. “Therefore since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear” (Hebrews 12:28).

We need to serve the Lord with a clean heart, not looking for the notice of men, not doing sloppy half-hearted jobs with no interest, nor being at the job only when those who supervise us are around. Ephesians 6:5-7 tell us to, “… be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ; not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, with goodwill doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men.”

Every Hebrew servant who was bought had to serve six years, but in the seventh year, he was to be set free. But if a Hebrew servant declared, “I love my master and do not want to go free,” and never wanted to be set free, his master would bring him before the judges. The master would take him to the door or the doorpost and there the servant’s ear would be pierced with an awl, a short pointed tool used for making holes. This would indicate that he was a servant for life (Exodus 21:6). We are to serve the Lord out of love, for life. We should not serve according to our moods or what suits us or “if there is time”. If we put the Lord first in our lives, give to Him the best of ourselves and serve Him with our whole heart, soul and strength, He will always have the best for us. Re-dedicate yourself to His service in whatever ministry you are serving. Let your service be a delight to the Lord and pleasing in His eyes.

Yours for the kingdom of God,
Dr. Daniel O. C.
