TRUE SCALE OF JUDGEMENT FOR THIS UNJUST WORLD

We should not judge a person by what his or her enemies say about him or her.
The trouble with most Christians today is that they would rather be on the judgement seat than on the witness stand.
You cannot judge a man until you know his whole story. Therefore, the books of justice are only balanced in heaven, not on earth.

1 Kings 3:16-28 / Matthew 27:1-2, 15-25 / Acts 24:10, 22, 24-27 / Acts 25:13-27 / 28:28-31 / Revelations 20:7-15

These passages give an account of some of the judgements recorded in the Bible. We
can see the striking contrast between judgement based on wisdom from above and those based on human wisdom and manipulations.

In the legal circle, the simple balanced scale symbolizes justice: a weighing instrument with central pivot, beam with two scales, hanging from the beam and symmetrical of the pivot.
This arrangement maintains a very delicate equilibrium when the scales are exactly equal.
The equilibrium is shifted by a very slight difference in the weights of the scale or if the beam is out of pivot.
By this symbol, justice implies equity, fairness, objectivity, and honesty.

Beloved saints of God in Christ Jesus, whenever you are administering judgement, there is need for great care and skill.
We must carefully balance penalty with offences and commendation with noble acts.
For this reason, judges and other legal officers and law enforcement agents are specially trained.

SCALE OF JUDGEMENT IDENTIFIED
(Exodus 20:1-17 / Matthew 22:37-40 / John 13:34-35 / Romans 13:1-14 / Deuteronomy 16:18-20 / Deuteronomy 1:17 / Psalms 82:1-6)

In Deuteronomy 16:18, God commanded that judges should be appointed in every community, big or small and that these judges should be just or righteous.
The acceptable conduct of the judges are stipulated in verses 19-20.

They should:

  • Not wrest judgement nor tip the balance of judgement (Deuteronomy 16:19 / Isaiah 5:23)
  • Not respect persons (Deuteronomy 1:17 / 16:19 / James 2:3, 9)
  • Not take gifts (Deuteronomy 16:19 / Exodus 23:8)
  • Be righteous (Deuteronomy 16:20)

There are also checks. The truth of any matter should be established from the mouth of two or more witnesses (Deuteronomy 17:6 / 19:15 / Matthew 18:16 / 2 Corinthians 13:1 / 1 Timothy 5:19).
Our Almighty Father also commanded mercy and truth. Therefore, in our judgement we must also remember mercy (Psalms 79:1 / 85:10 / Proverbs 3:3-4).
It is sometimes necessary to tamper justice with mercy but not indiscriminately. Discretion and integrity are essential ingredients.

Judges must be compassionate, stand firm for justice and fair play.
The judges are commanded to deliver the poor and the needy out of the hand of the wicked (Psalms 82:4).

Honesty and justice go hand in hand. All involved in the legal practice, administration, judges, magistrates, solicitors, advocates, and other law enforcement agents must be just.
They must be God-fearing, impartial, incorruptible, honest, courageous, kind, truthful, fair and square above board in every facet of their lives.

To be continued.

Remain blessed and rapturable,

Yours to reach this generation with the Gospel,

Dr. Daniel O. C.
