“THE REALITY OF THE INNER CONDITION OF THOSE UNDERGOING CRISIS”

Saints of God Most High, hear God’s word for you today:

“Ach’av told Izevel everything Eliyahu had done and how he had put all the prophets to the sword.Then Izevel sent a messenger to say to Eliyahu, ‘May the gods do terrible things to me and worse ones besides if by this time tomorrow I haven’t taken your life, just as you took theirs……..’” (1 Kings 19:1-3)

Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done and how he had slain all the prophets of Baal with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not your life as the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.

Then he was afraid and arose and went for his life and came to Beersheba of Judah over eighty miles, and out of Jezebel’s realm and left his servant there.

THE REVIEW OF CRISIS FROM THE LIVES OF BIBLE CHARACTERS
From the Bible accounts, it is clear that even believers can face crisis. Yes, the foundation of our faith can be shaken but behold the Lord will sustain us. Christians may face crippling disappointments and disasters everyday may have its “evil thereof” (Matthew 6:34)

A look at the lives of prominent Bible characters reveal different forms of crisis that came upon different lives. Eg.
For Abraham and the nation of Israel, it was serious lack or famine. In our today’s context, it is economic problems (Genesis 12:10 / 2 Kings 6:24-29).

For King David and Peter, the crisis was sinful lapse in morals (2 Samuel 12:1-13 / Luke 22:54-62).
For Job, the crisis was a severe trial, resulting in the loss of lives (children) and property (Job 1:13-22) and also severe and sore sickness (Job 2:7-10).

For King Hezekiah, it was a severe and sore illness (2 Kings 20:1). Hezekiah and rulers of Israel also faced stern threats (2 Kings 18:27-30 / 19:4).
For prophet Jeremiah, the crisis was sharp persecution (Jeremiah 20:2, 7-9, 14-18).

For prophet Elijah, it was soul discouragement (1 Kings 19:1-4).
For Shunammite woman, it was sudden loss of her son (2 Kings 4:18-27).
For Jesus Christ, it was subtle temptation (Matthew 4:1-11 / 26:36-46).

Whichever form it takes, crisis brings about doubt / disappointment / discouragement and dismay to those concerned.

THE REALITY OF THE INNER CONDITION OF THOSE UNDERGOING CRISIS
(Psalms 73:1-3, 12-13 / 2 Kings 4:27 / Jeremiah 32:1-4 / Ezekiel 34:4, 11-16)
Many crises have taken disastrous toll on people because sometimes the pastors undermine the real nature of the forces at work. Crisis time is a time when the hostile elements intensify their opposition to the pilgrim’s progress.

Satan and his hosts, the world and the flesh all join forces to rob people of their faith, peace, commitment and self-confidence. Many people become bitter towards God whenever they face crisis of life. Some even dare to question God’s authority, existence and power.

They even go further to judge God and His divine ability of managing His own creation. It is instructive and advisable for pastors to have insightful knowledge of what goes on in people’s heart during the time of crisis in order to be successful in the comfort and counselling ministry.

CRISIS ARE OVERCOME BY OUR FAITH IN THE UNFAILING GOD!
