Calvary greetings to you in the blessed name of Jesus Christ our Saviour, Amen!
HOW TO HANDLE A HOPELESS SITUATION
When difficulties are overcome, they become blessings.
In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.
Difficulty strengthens the mind as labour does the body.
Have you ever found yourself in a hopeless situation?
Perhaps you have or maybe you are going through one right now.
Take some time to go through the book of Jonah thoroughly.
The book of Prophet Jonah is not only full of hopeless cases but also show us the way out of them as well.
Talking about hopeless cases in the book of Jonah:
- We can see in the eyes of the sailors the hopelessness of a suffering sinner. (Jonah 1:4-6)
- We can see in Jonah, the hopelessness of a suffering backslider. (Jonah 1:7-15)
- We can see in the Ninevites the hopelessness of a doomed city. (Jonah 3:1-10)
HOW DO PEOPLE GET INTO HOPELESS SITUATIONS?
When we snub the word of God.
When we know the will of God but chose not to obey it.
When we live a careless life, then we run into hopeless situations.
When we live in wickedness and evil (Psalms 9:17).
When we know the will of God but choose to ignore it, sooner or later, we will find ourselves trapped in a hopeless situation.
This was what happened to Jonah the prophet.
He received a distinctive instruction from God to go and preach to the Ninevites.
But Jonah instead of obeying God, opted for a bargain.
The good Lord told him to go to Nineveh, but he chose to flee to another city called Joppa where he boarded a ship to Tarshish. Mid-way into his selfish journey, he became entrapped in a dangerous and life-threatening storm.
Beloved, do you know that whenever we take decisions without any recourse to the will or word of God, we run the risk of getting into danger. This lesson the sailors learnt the hard way during the fierce storm which threatened to sink their ship. If they had bothered to make necessary enquiries about Jonah before they took him on board their ship, they would have avoided the danger. But they acted presumptuously and nearly paid with their lives for their careless mistakes.
It is always good to check up from the Lord our God before we embark on any project. It is also good to seek divine counsel opinion and input. There are people who only remember God when things are difficult or situations are critical. There are people who remember to pray to God only when they are in trouble. Many people have made God a lawyer to be consulted only when there is problem or case to attend to. But a true believer should be a regular seeker of the face of God, in times of tranquillity as well as in times of troubles.
Those who are out of tune with God in times of peace will find it difficult to be in tune with Him in stormy times.
Those who have no relationship with the Lord, who cannot talk to Him in good times, will find it difficult to relate to Him or talk to Him in bad times.
To be continued.
Remain blessed and rapturable,
Yours to reach this generation with the Gospel,
Dr. Daniel O. C.
