HOW TO BE A SUCCESSFUL FISHERMAN (CONT’D)
B. PHILIP – THE SPIRIT FILLED SOUL WINNER
(Acts 8:27-39)
From the above Bible account, we can learn some lessons:
Identify with the unbeliever where he or she is or what he or she does. Do not participate in their sin (Acts 8:29, 31 / 1 Corinthians 9:19-23).
Be polite in your questions, response and comment to the unbeliever (Acts 8:30 / John 4:7).
Do not create problems in the mind of the unbeliever, rather be a source of solution.
Do not teach unbelievers doctrine, just lead them to Jesus first (Acts 8:35).
Do not state your idea or denominational belief, rather give them what the Word of God says (Matthew 15:6, 9).
Do not tell the unbeliever to think it over. Bring them to a decision at once as soon as possible (Acts 8:37 / 2 Corinthians 6:2).
Do not emphasize emotions. Dispositions are different. Faith first and feeling later (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Do not always insist on a long process of conviction, confession and conversion. Let the Holy Spirit work out the details (Acts 8:27-29 / 2:41 / Luke 5:4-11).
C. PAUL – THE SUFFERING, IMPRISONED SOUL WINNER
(Acts 16:23-34)
The Bible records of Paul’s soul winning involvement bring out the following lessons for us:
Do not fear to talk to anybody about Jesus. Apostle Paul talked to his jailor. Do you know that fear brings a snare? (Proverbs 29:25)
Do not interrupt another Christian who is witnessing to a person.
Do not tell sad stories. Point the unbeliever to Christ Jesus (Acts 16:31).
Do not have bad breath or noticeable body odour or other distractions. It will repel sensitive unbelievers whom you are trying to win (Acts 16:33).
Do not insist on keeping the unbeliever on their knees while praying (Luke 11:9-14).
Do not fail to instruct new converts regarding how to live the Christian life (John 8:31).
Be wise in all your witnessing (Proverbs 11:30).
To be continued.
Remain blessed and rapturable,
Yours to reach this generation with the Gospel,
Dr. Daniel O. C.
