Calvary greetings to you in the blessed name of Jesus Christ our Saviour, Amen!

A BELIEVER’S SPIRITUAL GROWTH

Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.
Every growth that is not towards God is growing towards decay.
Therefore, every person must do his or her own growing regardless of how tall his or her parents were.

Every sincere and concerned pastor must have the desire and vision for church growth. But make no mistake about this: church growth is more than the number of members. An essential element of church growth is the spiritual growth of the individuals. Remember, individuals cannot grow in a church without a growing pastor. Therefore, the spiritual growth of a pastor and individuals in a church is indispensable for church growth.

ACTS 19:1-20

Paul at Ephesus (Acts 19:1-7).
Paul met twelve disciples at Ephesus and led them into another spiritual experience – spiritual growth.

Pastoral ministry of Paul the apostle (Verses 8-9).
Teaching, preaching, counselling and praying also contributed to the spiritual growth of those disciples that he met.

Results of spiritual growth of those disciples (Verses 10-12).
All those who dwelt in Asia heard the Word of God.
Healing and deliverance ministries followed and Ephesus became a centre of gospel influence in Asia.

The disciples grew spiritually and many disciples were added to the church and the word of God grew mightily and prevailed (Verses 13-20). The church at Ephesus with twelve disciples experienced a tremendous growth.
Do not forget that Apollos had been at Ephesus before Paul the apostle arrived, still the church did not grow. Why? Because we cannot lead people to the height where we ourselves have not been (Acts 18:24-26).
Apollos himself needed to grow spiritually before the church could grow.

1. MINISTER FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH
(1 Timothy 4:12)

Every minister must realise and appreciate the need to grow spiritually.
Any Christian or minister of the gospel that is eager to grow spiritually must ensure that he removes all the hindrances or obstacles to growth. There are obviously some factors which may impede or promote spiritual growth.

A. Factors Which Impede Spiritual Growth

  • Doubtful salvation experience
  • Secret sin (Hebrews 12:1)
  • Unequal yoke (2 Corinthians 6:14-16)
  • Worldliness (1 John 2:15-17)
  • Prayerlessness
  • Self-indulgence
  • Lack of self-examination (2 Corinthians 13:5)

B. Factors Which Promote Growth

  • Genuine salvation experience
  • Holiness of life
  • Holy Ghost baptism (Acts 1:8)
  • Regular devotional life and study of the word of God. (2 Timothy 2:15)
  • Prayerfulness (Ephesians 6:18)
  • Daily hunger and thirst for more righteousness (Matthew 5:6 / Psalms 42:1-3)
  • Faithfulness in God’s service (1 Corinthians 4:1-2 / 15:58)

To be continued.

Remain blessed and rapturable,
Yours to reach this generation with the Gospel,

Dr. Daniel O. C.
