HOW TO WRESTLE AGAINST SPIRITUAL FORCES

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not man-made but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds. Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).

Prayer does not change God; it changes him who prays and also situations.

Ever since Satan was cast upon the earth after his great rebellion against God in heaven, his pre-occupation has been to spoil the world and to destroy the good works of God (John 10:10).

As soon as God created Adam and Eve and settled them in the Garden of Eden, Satan lost no time in positioning himself there and causing the fall of the first couple. Since then, the descendants of Adam have become preys to Satan and sin.

However, the finished work of Calvary releases as many who believe in our Lord Jesus Christ from the shackles of the enemy.

The Almighty God has made an unflinching resolve to protect all of us who believe in Christ Jesus, His only Son.
This divine decision of our merciful God puts Satan in a difficult position and an unpleasant situation.
Satan has therefore set his forces in array to protect his wicked kingdom in order to win back the captives he has lost.

A believer is spiritually dwelling in the heavenly realm but still has his body housed in this frail flesh.
As believers, even though we dwell spiritually in the heavenly realm, still we physically dwell in this world of darkness (Ephesians 2:2).
This is the reason why we have to wrestle against the powers of darkness to attain to spiritual victory and our heavenly home.

FORCES IN THE FRAY

Christianity is warfare. A true Christian believer must realise that there is a battle set in array between the forces of God and that of Satan.

The step of giving yourself to Jesus Christ means enlisting in Christ’s army.
No one can stand on the fence. Either you are on God’s side or Satan’s side.
Remember, that there is no de-militarised zone (DMZ).

How Is This Battle Arrayed?

On one side is the triune God, the heavenly hosts and the believers in Christ Jesus.
But on the other side is Satan, the fallen angels and his human agents such as witches, wizards, false prophets, necromancers, occultists, soothsayers and all the workers of evil.

This scenario is played out in the physical realm at various instances in the Holy Scriptures. eg:

Moses and Aaron fighting for the release of the Israelites from Pharaoh who enlisted the help of his sorcerers, magicians and wise men. (Ex 12:33)
Elijah in contest with the prophets of Baal. (1 Kings 18:19-40)
The confrontation between David and Goliath. (1 Sam 17:32-50)

Elisha with the hosts of Syria encamped against him. (2 Kings 7:12-20)
Job with the satanic forces arraigned against him.
Daniel with the prince of Persia withholding the answer to his prayer. (Dan 11:13)

Saul of Tarsus before he became Paul, fighting against the Church. (Acts 9:1-2)
