Senior Pastor Daniel O. C. | May 15, 2024

Calvary greetings to you in the blessed name of Jesus Christ our Saviour, Amen!
GUIDE TO PROPER DECORUM
When we feel that we are not sufficiently respected, we should ask ourselves whether we are living as we should.
Decency is like gold, the same in all countries.
Politeness is the flower of humanity. Anyone can be polite to a king but it takes a gentleman to be polite to a beggar.
“Therefore, you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake.
For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing.
Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honour to whom honour” (Romans 13:5-7).
A common definition sees decorum as meaning proper behaviour while a more specific definition is given by the Webster’s Dictionary as “Conformity with conventional social manners in speech, writing, dressing and behaviour.”
Regardless of the definition, either common or specific, proper decorum can be said to describe the totality of an individual personality.
It is expected that the behaviour of a child should be moulded through an institution such as home, school, church and the community.
This will help to produce desirable and acceptable behavioural characteristics in such a child as he grows up.
As we become an adult, whatever behavioural traits we have developed remains with us for life.
Human beings are peculiar creatures whose attitudes are expected to conform to the norms of the society.
This is the reason why a proper investigation is carried out in people before marriage is sought.
We must always remember that no matter the type of training a person goes through, either to obtain degree or academic excellence, the best teacher to mould our character and sharpen our behaviour is the Holy Bible.
Reading it, meditating on it and living it out is the best way of life.
As soon as a person becomes a Christian believer, born again through conversion, that person’s life must be patterned after the Scriptures.
The Bible gives direction on every area of life.
Specific guides in these following areas of life will make us a good example to our spouse, children, brethren, neighbours and colleagues.
Language
The way we speak goes a long way to show who we are. (Ephesians 4:29-32)
We must always remember that we are:
- The heirs of the kingdom.
- Joint heirs with Christ Jesus.
- The righteous of God.
- The new generation and a royal priesthood.
- Ambassadors of Christ.
- Children of God.
- The saints of God.
- The redeemed.
- Members of the household of God.
A believer must be able to control his or her tongue.
We must not be talebearers or a false witness.
Our speech must be seasoned with grace and love.
The well of our tongue must be springs of life to people around us. (Proverbs 17:27 / Collosians 4:6)
Dressing
A godly person should be decent and moderate in his or her dressing.
Our attire should not conform to worldly standards that tend towards flamboyance and arrogance.
We must wear dresses that cover our nakedness, that is the reason of dressing up.
We must not dress to expose our nakedness, to seduce or to cause others to fall into lust.
Neat, smart and comfortable clothings are ideal for a Christian man and woman.
Remain blessed and rapturable,
Yours to reach this generation with the Gospel,
Dr. Daniel O. C.
