Beloved Saints of God,
Thanksgiving is an attitude of humility. It is the only correct way to receive what God has graciously given to us because it honors our trust in His kindness even though we do not fully deserve what we have received. Be thankful in all things and for all things. Ingratitude is like cancer that destroys everything that is good and helpful. It sees only flaws, hurts and lack but to give thanks and praise in all situations to the glory of God becomes a declaration of God’s goodness and lovingkindness. A life of gratitude is an ongoing discovery and an acknowledgement of God’s love, generosity and goodness.
King David said of God, “To the faithful You show Yourself faithful…” (2 Samuel 22:26 NIV). Every time we grow, we find God awesomely kind. He works all things together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
Like Apostle Paul, be thankful in all situations. When Paul and Silas were in Philippi, they met a slave girl with a spirit of “witchcraft and divination” (Acts 16:16). Paul cast the demonic spirit out of her. When the girl’s owners seized Paul and Silas and brought them to the courts, they were thrown into a prison. What would you do in such a situation? Paul and Silas sang, prayed and worshipped in the prison! They rejoiced in their suffering and considered it pure joy to go through trials of many kinds. They worshipped the God who can turn their situation around for the glory of His Holy Name!
Then a miracle happened. A violent earthquake shook the prison. Everybody’s chains became loose and prison doors flew open. All the prisoners did not seize this opportunity to escape. Instead, they continued to sit and listen to Paul and Silas raising their voices of praise and thanksgiving through worship.
Thanksgiving as a lifestyle honors our relationship with God by expressing trust in His kindness. Gratitude positions us to know God in relationship and discover the reasons for which He created us. Giving ourselves to God is an honor. Do we live our lives before the Lord or before men? There is a level of life we can reach where we practice thanksgiving as a lifestyle – a place where we remember our answered prayers. From heaven’s perspective, it is right to give thanks “in everything” without expecting anything in return. Amen!
Shalom in Jesus’ love,
