The Word

Beloved Saints of God,

It is the duty of every Christian to FEAR God. The need to fear the Lord is so important that almost 200 verses in the Bible command and encourage us to obey it. To fear God is to hate sin and injustice; to depart from evil: from speaking deceitfully; but to walk in humility and integrity, giving God the praise, thanksgiving, adoration and worship that He alone deserves. To fear God means to abstain from complaining (John 6:43), flattery (1 Thessalonians. 2:4,5) and wickedness (Ecclesiastes. 8:13). We dishonor God and His Word when we think or speak from a posture of dissatisfaction. But those who fear God know that there is nothing more important than obedience.

Great promises are given to those who fear God. Here are some virtues of godly fear penned by David, a man after God’s own heart:

  • They will be taught by the Lord Himself (Psalms 25:12).
  • They will prosper in the ways of God (Psalms 25:13).
  • They will receive God’s secret counsel (Psalms 25:14).
  • They will receive God’s deliverance (Psalms 25:15).
  • They will receive God’s mercy (Psalms 103:17).
  • They will receive God’s honor (Psalms 15:4).
  • They will receive protection through God’s angels (Psalms 34:7).

Unless we fear GOD, we cannot know Him intimately. When we reverence God, we will gain the knowledge of Him (Proverbs 9:10) and this keeps us from wrong behavior. We must not forget that we serve a holy God who calls us to be holy (1 Peter 1:15-16). When people behave and live irresponsibly, they do not fear God, having a casual attitude towards Him and the prospect of judgment.

The early Church understood the need to walk in the fear of the Lord (Acts 2:42,43). Those believers handled the WORD and the WORK of God with such awe and godly fear that they began to experience the awesome Presence and power of God with signs and wonders. It also caused supernatural GENEROSITY among these believers to give sacrificially without any fanfare or self-glory. They gave graciously, massive financial gifts from their hearts at a time of great need. Hallelujah! TO GOD BE ALL GLORY AND HONOR!

ONE OF THE BIGGEST ENEMIES TO THE CALL OF GOD IS THE FEAR OF MEN.

CHRISTIANS ARE OFTEN MORE CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT PEOPLE THINK THAN WHAT THE LORD THINKS OF THEM.

WE CANNOT TRULY LOVE GOD UNTIL WE FEAR HIM.

Shalom in Jesus’ love,
Pastor Brian Chua
