GROWING IN GOD’S PATIENCE
By patience, we mean forbearance, calmness, restraint, serenity, tolerance, endurance, fortitude, long-suffering and perseverance, etc. Have you learnt how to persevere in the midst of adversity? Have you learnt how to exercise patience when you are accused of what you did not do or when you face persecution?
Patience or long-suffering is the powerful ability of selfless love to bear all things and to persevere in adverse situations. Patience is love enduring. Endurance is not retaliation or talking back.
Patience is an attribute of generous willingness to try to understand awkward people. It is also the liberal willingness to understand disturbing events and unwelcome situations that God allows to come our way. “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2). Always remember that whatever comes through your life is to make you stronger and not weaker, better and not bitter, a nice person and not a nasty person. It is by going through the school of Job that you can pass with a degree in patience. Take heart for Jesus our Lord is coming soon to take His people home to the mansions He has prepared for us. Therefore, continue to endure and learn to laugh at the rage and waves of inconvenience and declare: “My Redeemer Lives!”
Yours for the kingdom of God,
Dr. Daniel O. C.
