Beloved Saints of the Lord,

Exactly what kind of person does God choose to partner with Him to do His work? Time and again God has chosen people who were unfit in the eyes of the world when He needed someone to do a job. God has chosen the foolish to shame the wise and the mighty so that no flesh should glory in His presence (1 Corinthians. 1:27 & 29). For God’s criteria are different from the criteria of the world. The heart of God is revealed in Isaiah 55:8, “’For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,’ says the Lord.”

When God chose Samuel to lead the nation, he was just a boy. When God looked for someone to kill a giant, He chose a young shepherd boy named David. In the fulness of God’s time, He sent His Son to this earth by choosing a young virgin girl to give birth to the Savior of the world. When it was time for Jesus to choose His disciples, He did not go to seminaries or synagogues. Rather, Jesus chose disciples who knew more about fishing and tax-collecting than servanthood. When God searched for a person He could use to write the majority of the New Testament, He chose Apostle Paul who was once the most cruel Christian murderer. When God was looking for a birth place for Jesus, He chose a lowly manger on the hill of Bethlehem. This was certainly not the place anyone would have expected the King of kings to be born.

Would you have chosen Samuel, David, Mary, John the Baptist, Peter or Paul? Yet these are the kind of people God selected to use in mighty and powerful ways. They may have flaws but they had hearts that qualified them for God’s use. What attracts God rarely attracts the notice of man. The Old and New Testaments are filled with examples of people whom God desired, but whom the world rejected. God’s choice is not based on outward appearances, talents or lack of talents, education or lack of education. Most importantly, if a person has a heart that fears and honors God, he or she is qualified to be used by Him. The truth is, God is looking for a people who are willing to pay the price and to undergo any hardship needed to confront the power of hell and to fulfil their God-given responsibility.

My beloved, you do not have to be “high and mighty” to get things done in the Kingdom of God. All you need is the call of God and the anointing of the Holy Spirit with a heart that fears God! Amen!

Shalom in Jesus’ love,
Pastor Brian Chua
