Dear worshipers of the Most High,
The evidence of a new birth (born-again) is in the new life. He is a new creation, no longer the “old man” pursuing blindly the vain-glory of this world (2 Corinthians 5:17, Romans 6:6, Ephesians 4:22, Colossians 3:9, Galatians 5:26). He is a “peculiar people” – unusual, strange and odd to this present world (1 Pet 2:9). He is a distinct entity called out from the world and its system (John 17:16). The god of this world is not his God (2 Cor 4:4, 6:16). He belongs to the kingdom of God (Matthew 13:38). And God is his Father (Matthew 6:9, 2 Corinthians 6:18). Unlike his unbelieving relatives, colleagues, neighbours, friends and classmates, a born-again Christian has a different and a new reason, vision, dream and pursuit.
One of the things that mark a new life in a born-again Christian is a new appetite. He now is linked back to the reason of his creation – “for Thy pleasure” (Revelations 4:11). In satisfying “Thy pleasure”, he too finds pleasure, joy, life, purpose, destiny, peace, contentment, satisfaction and more (John 10:10). Like David, he too will express, “I delight to do Your will O my God” (Psalms 40:8). Like our Lord Jesus, he will desire to be “daily His delight” (Proverbs 8:30).
And one of the new appetite a born-again Christian has acquired is the desire and the joy of soul winning. A born-again Christian desires to please God and to do His will, and soul winning is a big one for Him (Ezekiel 18:23, 2 Peter 3:9). This is not to say that he will jump out of his bed for every outreach. The truth is, soul winning always requires some form of self-denial. Often, it will cost us something – time, money, comfort or more. Upon reaching home, a blessed sister commented, “I am still feeling the urine smell all over my body. I need to take a bath”. This precious sister had earlier reached out to a lady who stays in a house that was filled with the urine stench. Yet, this testimony sounds like child’s play when we consider esteemed nameless and faceless brethren in other parts of the world where sharing the name of Jesus means rape, murder, torture, seizure of possession and imprisonment for some. In the Christendom, some use God to help them to pursue the world, but the born-again avail themselves for God to use them for His kingdom.
Beloved saints, we may well be the very generation that will witness “then the end will come” (Matthew 24:14). Today, purpose to be part of the laborers that are sent out into His harvest (Matthew 9:38). Roll up your sleeves, gird up your loin and get your hands dirty for our Father’s business – Soul Winning, which is now our new appetite and new life.
Maranatha,
Rev. Wilfred Lim
