The Word

Dearly Beloved in the Lord,
A Blessed first Sunday of 2026! As this year begins it will benefit if we pay attention to the following:
Firstly, check if we are truly in the Lord. Am I a born again Christian? If you are not sure, today repent of your sins and commit your life into the hands of the Lord asking Him to come into your heart and life and be the Saviour and Lord of your life. Secondly, let’s commit ourselves to be obedient to keep ourselves in the ways of God and according to His Word for which we need to read the Word daily. Thirdly, Matthew 24:42 tells us: “…be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.” Let us constantly remind ourselves that the Lord Jesus is coming in the clouds for us which means we must be ready, prepared every day and expecting Him anytime.
Fourthly, let’s go out to win souls, telling others about Jesus and making it an important priority for our lives this year.
Fifthly, let’s put into alignment what is required of the Lord for our lives. Colossians 3:2 tells us “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” Let’s not be easily distracted by the attractions and seductions of the world which only destroy but build and stay our hearts on what pleases the Lord and is in His Word. Satan our enemy is on the prowl looking for whom he will devour, so let’s be ready and armed. To live a life pleasing the Lord, the Bible tells us to “put on” and “put off” certain things in our lives.
Here’s what we need to “Put on”:
Colossians 3:10 tells us to “put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge.”
Colossians 3:12 and 13 remind us to “put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.”
Colossians 3:14b urges us above all these things to “put on love, which is the bond of perfection.” The verses following this instruct us to “let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
Ephesians 6:11-20 command us to “put on the whole armour of God.” Let’s daily put on the armour of the Lord and clothe ourselves to stand against the wiles or the evil schemings of the enemy.
Here’s what we need to “put off”:
Colossians 3:5 “put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”
Colossians 3:8 Completely eliminate “anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.”
Colossians 3:9 We must not lie to one another as we have “put off the old man with his deeds…” We must imitate the Lord Jesus in all ways, attitude and behaviour.
Most of all we are reminded, “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men” (Colossians 3:23). If pleasing the Lord in our ways is our intent and with all our hearts we focus on it, then we will be lights shining in this dark world and examples to follow.
