Beloved saints of God,
God did not give you a spirit of bitterness or a fault-finding attitude. Do not allow the devil to deceive you into thinking that it is alright to hit out at your enemy or to find fault with people just because everyone else is doing so. As a child of God, you are to be set apart. Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong but choose to do what is right and godly.
Jesus our Redeemer wants us to examine our motives and conduct (2 Corinthians 13:5). Before making a comment, ask yourself if you would find it acceptable if you were on the receiving end. Ensure that your motives are pure and not tainted by animosity, hatred, jealousy, envy or grudge.
The peculiarities and traits in others that bother us most are often those that we dislike in ourselves. Our untamed personal bad habits and behavioural patterns are often the very things that we most want to change in others because they mirror what we do not like in ourselves. Do you magnify other people’s faults while excusing your own? Before you criticise anyone, check yourself first to see if you deserve the same assessment. Ask God to help you overcome your shortcomings and He will do so. Just as He forgives you and helps you, do the same for your neighbours who are caught in the same trap as you.
God has chosen you to be Christ’s representatives, not to run people down but to sustain them and meet their needs. You cannot be Christ’s ambassador if you cannot bear other people’s burdens. You are called to the witness stand to testify for Jesus, so do not sit on the judgement throne and hand down verdicts.
