Dear worshipers of the Most High,

The divine conclusion of king Rehoboam’s life is that his failure to seek the Lord had led him to commit evil. There is an important link between seeking the Lord and not committing evil in His sight. If we seek Him, His grace will cause us to stay in the path of life and not fall off onto the way of destruction. He will direct our steps by His word, and let no iniquity have dominion over us (Psalms 119:133). If we seek Him, He will enlarge the path under us, so that our feet will not slip (Proverbs 18:36). As we seek the Lord, we give Him permission to work within us. There He will “add-to” and “remove-from” us accordingly, so that we can be made ready to meet Him.

King Jehoshaphat sought the God of his father and walked in His commandments (2 Chronicles 17:4). His heart took delight in the ways of the Lord and he removed the high places and wooden images from Judah (verse 6). King Josiah began to seek the Lord when he was a teenager (2 Chronicles 34:1-3). He started “to purge”, “to break down”, “to cut down”, “to break into pieces” and “to burn” all that were evil in the sight of God (verses 3-5). Zacchaeus who sought to see who Jesus was, gave half of his goods to the poor and restored fourfold what he had acquired by falsehood (Luke 19:3, 8).  Cornelius who prayed to God always, gave alms generously to the people (Acts 10:2-3). As we seek Him and abide in His presence, we will also walk as He walked (1 John 2:6). One of the precious fruits of seeking the Lord is to love righteousness and hate wickedness or lawlessness (Psalms 45:7, Hebrews 1:9).

Today, “unrighteous deception among those who perishhas found its way into the Church (2 Thessalonians 2:10). Some “Christians” are dangerously living a life of having pleasure in unrighteousness (2 Thessalonians 2:12). The unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God. The bible adds, “do not be deceived” because the same lie still whispers, “you will not surely die” (Genesis 3:4). It is written plainly however, “neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). We are to hate, depart and come out from such (2 Corinthians 6:17-18).

Let us prepare our heart to seek the Lord, “Search, examine, investigate and look deep into my heart, O Lord! Know my heart, try me and find out everything I am thinking! And see if there be any wicked, idolatrous, grievous and sinful way in me; and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalms 139:23-24).

For thus says the Lord to the house of Israel: “Seek Me and live” (Amos 5:4).

Maranatha,
