Calvary greetings to you in the blessed name of Jesus Christ our Saviour, Amen!
CARING TO WIN THE LOST (CONT’D)
HOW TO CARE AND CONSERVE SOULS (Ephesians 4:11-15 / 2 Corinthians 11:2-4)
New converts are like children born into the world; they need the attention of the parents in faith to nurture and nourish them.
To care for and conserve the new converts we are to observe the following:
Water Baptism
Water baptism is an exercise closely related to repentance, and it is commanded in the Great Commission.
After confession of faith in the atoning work of Jesus Christ on the cross, the new converts are subjected to water baptism.
This is done not by sprinkling of water, not by making a sign of the cross nor by subjecting the person to dip three times in the water as some practice.
Water baptism is by the biblical mode of immersion once in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Any other erroneous methods must be corrected (Matthew 3:16 / 28:19 / John 3:23 / Acts 8:30).
Show Love
Love will serve as an encouragement to propel us to be successful in our duty. The new converts have their problems.
Love will create room for them in our hearts which will enable us to spend and be spent for them (2 Corinthians 12:15).
Feed The Converts
As part of our caring, the spiritual child is to be fed with the sincere milk of the Word of God (1 Peter 2:2-3 / 1 Thessalonians 2:7 / Matthew 28:19-20).
Protection
We need to protect the new converts from false prophets, teachers, and other error peddlers. There is a grave need to shield the converts from these (1 Timothy 4:1).
Encouragement
At the initial stage of new life in Christ Jesus, new converts often face many trials, temptations, and persecutions.
They need to be taught that “we must through much tribulation enter the kingdom” (Acts 14:22 / 2 Timothy 3:12).
Counseling
Counseling is an important service we give to the new convert.
The convert should be free to discuss his or her trials and troubles with the soul winner.
We are to be like Barnabas – taking converts by the hand to encourage, support and nurture (Proverbs 20:18 / Acts 11:25).
Praying Always
New converts must be prayed for and prayed with (Ephesians 1:15-18).
They must be encouraged to pray on all issues of life and made to believe that God takes care of them (1 Peter 5:7 / Philippians 4:6).
Healing and deliverance will be enjoyed as they are constantly prayed for.
Fellowship With Other Believers
In the fellowship, we discover one another’s infirmities, trials, temptations, gifts, and graces.
If the axe is dull, the edge will thus be sharpened.
Hence, we are commanded not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together (Proverbs 27:17 / Malachi 3:16 / Ecclesiastes 10:10 / Hebrews 10:25 / Acts 2:42, 47).
Quiet Time
Converts must be taught to observe quiet time. Thus, strength and grace would be obtained to run the race daily (Job 22:12 / Mark 1:35 / Lamentations 3:22-23).
Witnessing (Psalms 107:2)
Every convert should be encouraged to witness for Christ without feeling ashamed of the gospel.
We are called through the preaching of the gospel to:
- Instruct the ignorant
- Wake up the sleepy conscience
- Bring the captives to liberty
- Confirm believers in grace
- Bind up the broken hearted
- Destroy bondages
- Open the doors of prison to those that are bound
- Recover the sights to the blind
- Give beauty in place of ashes
- Exhort the church with all long-suffering and doctrine
Therefore, God’s people, be prepared to spend and be spent in this glorious work of the kingdom.
Remain blessed and rapturable,
Yours to reach this generation with the Gospel,
Dr. Daniel O. C.
