“BIBLICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF A TRUE LEADER”
Saints of God Most High, hear God’s word for you today:
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because of your youth; on the contrary, set the believers an example in your speech, behavior, love, trust and purity” (1 Timothy 4:12).
Let no one despise or think less of you because of your youth, but be an example and pattern for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.
BIBLICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF A TRUE LEADER
Spiritual Reality
A church leader must possess the reality of the presence of Jesus Christ in his / her life.
Having experienced the saving grace of God, the leader must put on Christ (Romans 13:14). The leader must flow in the power of the Holy Spirit in His prayer / worship and personal life (Job 29:14 / Galatians 3:27 / Ephesians 4:24 / Colossians 3:10, 12). Knowledge of Jesus Christ is absolutely essential.
Biblical Authority
A church leader must not exceed his / her biblical authority.
It should be clearly understood that Jesus Christ the Son of the living God is the absolute head of the church (Ephesians 1:22 / 4:15).
No leader has the right to overthrow the absolute authority of Christ Jesus the Messiah.
The leader has been called, chosen and therefore authorized to administer the church under God’s divine direction (1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 / Hebrews 13:7, 17).
The authority of a leader is given by the word of God and it is also limited to the word of God. The God given authority of a leader should not exceed the authority of the scriptures. Personal opinions should not be imposed on people.
Biblical leadership does not demand or dictate but rather patiently perseveres in the teachings and application of God’s word. Biblical leadership includes accountability to Christ, to the scripture’s conformity and to the congregation.
Personal Integrity
Nobody can lead God’s people effectively without a personal integrity, sincerity, honesty and credibility.
A high and holy standard is required. 1 Timothy 3:1-13 describes the standard for all leaders including pastors, bishops and deacons.
Apostle Paul gave a young minister / leader by the name of Timothy the charge to be an example. (In word , conduct , love , spirit, faith and purity 1 Timothy 4:12).
In all things either in public or private matters, church leaders must show exemplary behaviour.
The leader is set apart by standards which requires inward and outward character which is Christlike.
A leader must in particular exhibit a quality family life (if married) with a healthy marriage.
May we be living examples to all for God’s glory in Jesus’ mighty name, Amen!
Everybody shout a resounding, “AMEN & AMEN!”
TO BE CONT’D.
Sabbath shalom and good morning.
