WOW-6 December 2023: PROMISE AND PROVISION FOR THE PURITY OF HEARTS

Senior Pastor Daniel O. C. | Dec 06, 2023

YWCA

Calvary greetings to you in the blessed name of Jesus Christ our Saviour, Amen!

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean. Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.
You are of purer eyes than to behold evil and cannot look on wickedness. (Prophet Habakkuk)

Only a passionate love for purity can save a man from impurity.
The insight that relates us to God arises from purity of the heart, not from clearness of intellect.

He who would be serene and pure needs but one thing – detachment (detach from wrong relationship, wickedness, association, people and reasoning) then you will be pure.

Effects of the fall of man are seen today in the whole human race (Genesis 5:3 / 6:5 / Job 14:1-4 / Psalms 51:3 / Matthew 15:19 / Mark 7:21-23).

The Bible teaches a two-fold nature of sin:

a) Actual Sins and
b) Indwelling Sin (Inbred or inherited depravity)

At conversion, all actual sins are forgiven.
At purification (sanctification) inbred sin is purged. (Titus 2:14 / 1 Thessalonians 5:23)

Unregenerated people need justification which comes with salvation while the believers need purity of heart.
Purity of heart is the gracious work of the Holy Spirit whereby the believer is freed from sin and exalted to holiness of heart and life.

Dr. Adam Clarke, the great Methodist commentator once said, “The whole design of God was to restore man to His image and raise man from the ruins of his fall to make him perfect, blot out all his sins, purify his soul and fill him with holiness.

Purity and holiness is not optional. It is imperative for a regenerated soul.
God is holy and His people must be holy outwardly and inwardly, in action as well as in thoughts and motives.

1. PURPOSE FOR THE PURITY OF HEARTS

Holiness and purity of heart or sanctification is an indispensable experience in the gospel.
Purity of heart is a blessing from God to every believer; therefore, let us strive to attain this state of life in Christ Jesus.

Purity of heart will:

  • Confirm our obedience to God’s will and Word. (1 Peter 1:16 / Matthew 5:48)
  • It is God’s choice for all who will see Him. (Hebrews 12:14)
  • Stimulate perfect love for God and man (1 Corinthians 13:4-13 / Deuteronomy 30:6 / Matthew 22:37-40 / 15:12-13). Man’s natural heart is imperfect before God.
  • The lack of absolute surrender to God’s Word and will in our lives is simply because of the lack of this glorious purification experience.
  • Promotes unity and oneness among brethren. (John 17:20-23 / Psalms 133:1-3)
  • Purity of heart eliminates racial discrimination, confusion, frustration, faultfinding attitude and fleshiness.
  • Unity of heart enhances growth. It brings about answered prayers and freedom from a suspicious nature.
  • Ensures inner victory and freedom from worldly cares, worry and anxiety. (Hebrews 4:9 / Ephesians 5:26-27 / Philippians 1:9-11)
  • Enables us not to over react on issues but remain calm whenever troubled waters raises up its ugly head. (Psalms 46:10 / Isaiah 59:19)

To be continued.

Remain blessed and rapturable,
Yours to reach this generation with the Gospel,

Dr. Daniel O. C.
