The doctrine of the virgin birth of Jesus teaches us that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God, born of a virgin. It teaches us about the miraculous conception of Jesus Christ by Mary the virgin who knew no man but was over-shadowed by the power of the Holy Ghost.

God was the first to unveil the virgin birth of Jesus when He referred to Him as the Seed of the woman in Gen. 3:15. Denying the virgin birth of Jesus is by implication denying Christ’s deity.

To announce the birth of Jesus, the angel Gabriel was sent to a virgin betrothed to a man, but who had not known a man. After this announcement, Mary herself said, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” (Luke 1:34) Various portions of the Scriptures point out that the conception of Jesus was the power of the Holy Spirit. No man was responsible for it.

Throughout the Scriptures, Jesus had always referred to God as His Father. He never referred to any mortal man as his father, not even Joseph. This is another authentic proof of His virgin birth.

The Bible also states that Joseph was a just man. The Scriptures would not have qualified him as a just man if he had physical relationship with Mary before marriage for then he would have transgressed against the law of God.

This teaching also brings out the importance of the virgin birth of Jesus. The virgin birth of Jesus is essential to our faith because it’s only through the miracle of the virgin birth that Christ can be fully God and fully man simultaneously. Without Jesus being born of a virgin, we couldn’t have been saved. Without the virgin birth, Jesus cannot be the new Adam. Without the virgin birth, Christ will not be sinless and perfectly obedient to the law of God on behalf of sinners like us. Christ became the payment for our sins as One Who is both God and man. God will not accept any payment other than a pure and perfect payment, a sinless person. It takes a sinless person to die on behalf of a sinful people. Without Christ being both God and man, our hope is in vain.

Let this teaching anchor you on the truth of the virgin birth of Jesus. The virgin birth of Jesus is real. Do not be deceived by the many false teachers and sinning scholars today who use their natural mind to comprehend the things of God and are denying the virgin birth of Jesus. Judgement awaits them unless they repent.
